VIN Decoding
Boss Vision uses the NHTSA VIN decoder API to verify the vehicle's make, model, year, body style, engine, and manufacturing plant from the 17-character VIN. This cross-references with what Boss Vision sees in the photos. Mismatches between the decoded VIN data and the visual assessment (wrong body style, mismatched year features) are flagged immediately.
Title Status Verification
Clean titles receive full LTV eligibility. Salvage titles are flagged and receive reduced LTV (typically 15-20% below the standard cap). Flood-damaged, rebuilt, or branded titles are similarly flagged. Boss Tag recommends obtaining a vehicle history report (Carfax, AutoCheck) and uploading it as documentation — this significantly improves the Documentation Score.
What to Document
Title document, registration, vehicle history report, service records, inspection reports, insurance documentation, and photos of the VIN plate, odometer, all four corners, interior, engine bay, and undercarriage. For classic cars, documentation of restoration work, matching numbers verification, and provenance history are particularly valuable.
